October at PGRH

The school year is underway, the weather is turning (colder for most of us!) and All Hallows Eve looms! Here a spooky October update for everyone!

Autumn Ambassadors

Thanks to everyone who helped decorate the server in autumnal colours! Our AutumnAmbassadors🍁 this month, helping bringing us further into the season are @.hellacat and @sofoxgofox!

Here’s what we’ve got in store for the tenth month of the year…

October Movie Night

The return of the Halloween movie night is nigh! This year we’ll be communally watching Hocus Pocus on Wednesday, October 30th at 7pm GMT— so pop it in your diaries, pop the popcorn and join us in running amok (amok, amok). Costumes optional!

Join the AcWriMo Committee!

October is a quiet month at PGRH, but we are prepping for the month-long write-a-thon that is Academic Writing Month (AcWriMo) all November! Maybe you’re thinking forward to what kind of writing you need to get done, or maybe you’d like to help run the festivities at PGRH. We need all sorts: people to come up with ideas for the month, people to run short workshops, and others to help get the word out beyond the server!

Drop a note to @leclairjoshua if and how you’d like to be involved and what you’d like to contribute. Committee members will also have access to a top secret planning channel and November’s featured role!

October Events

Weeklies:
– Monday morning pomodoros are running 8am to 11am GMT every week! Jana, Joshua and the PomPoms🍅 will see you there.
– While we keep the Coworking room open at all times for some zombie work sessions, our lively “come one, come all” sessions run every Thursday at 9am, 2pm and 8pm GMT. We’ve also used the chance to level up our Focumon Friends at the same time — if you’ve not joined yet, have a look.
PLEASE NOTE: Clocks go from BST to GMT on October 27th so timings may be slightly different for you the last week of October!

Monthlies:
– The Book Club will be meeting up on Friday, October 4th at 9am GMT to discuss and pool our knowledge about Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire. Poll for the next book of the month to follow!
– This month, the Scholastic Sharks 🦈 jump into the Think Tank on Monday, October 7th at 2pm GMT for an academic voice chat to sift through the theories and problems you’re working through.
– For non-academic chatter, you might join the Coffee Crew ☕️, who meet on the last Friday of every month — set your diaries for Friday, October 25th and put the kettle on in time for 10am GMT for a cosy chat.
:feather: Lastly (but not leastly!) Steph’s ever-popular Journal With Me event returns on Tuesday, October 29th at 3pm GMT. Bring your art kit (or knitting or pottery wheel) to join in our communal arts and crafts session!

Until next time, stay curious, stay caffeinated, stay connected!
